Not only is the number of bankruptcies increasing, the number of debt enforcements also reached a record high. The municipal debt enforcement office issued 29 payment orders in 500. One reason for the increase: Creditors are increasingly demanding even very small amounts.
The canton of St.Gallen recently reported a record: the number of bankruptcies rose to 2018 in 781. A quarter of it was opened in the canton's capital. There are 197 cases. The tendency is the same in city and canton, says Daniel Wild, deputy head of the cantonal bankruptcy office: "The number of bankruptcies has been increasing for several years."
